Sleeping Giant?

Today, Pakistan has over 6 millions citizens who are over the age of 65. Such people witnessed the partition, some survived the treacherous journey from Amritsar to Lahore, whilst others left all their livelihoods and in effect migrated to the new nation. The creation of Pakistan, the struggle and the sacrifices are all taught in schools and every Pakistani can reel of Pakistan's history. Even though 50% of Pakistan's population is under the age of 15! Pakistan's history and its constituent parts form part of the Pakistani psyche.

MQM Militancy Wing, A Fairy Tale OR Media trial?

What a sizzling, thrilling start of the day. The next morning of the MQM Jalsa in Lahore and all the newspapers and epapers have highlights and top stories of MQM’s militant wing and their target killings. The stories were perfect from all the angels of suspense, thrill and drama.   I looked back at the calendar hanging on my wall, was I dreaming or am I back in 1995. All those funny names and characters of the past were in action. This time it was Ajmal Pahari telling the fairy tales of MQM’s horror movie to the province of Punjab.
WOW…I said…What a  dramatized timing…just after the MQM public gathering in Lahore, horror stories emerged in all the news papers of Pakistan. So who is behind everything in Pakistan? Someone really wants to manoeuvres the whole nations way of thinking in their own way and is so powerful that the whole print and e-media is obliged to obey them. It must not be just one political party or just ruling elite. It is someone greater.
All fairy tales…stories told by militants themselves without any hesitation is very unusual. What they were doing since so long ? why not captured in last 15 years? Or they had been waiting for the MQM to shift their movement in Punjab?
When we learn something happening we first learn the history of that something, how it evolved in the past. The history tells us that similar kind of sizzling and horrifying stories of MQM terrorism emerged in every news paper and on television in 90’s in 1992 and 1995 during the state and military operations against the MQM. The beneficiaries were the especially PML-N and the other feudo-capitalist political parties. Those reports and media trail against the MQM diffused the chances for the MQM to emerge as a large national political party but then later on in the coming years, we saw none of the cases, MQM was proven guilty in the courts as they all appeared to be politicized and fake.
The recent stories like the one we saw in all the news papers and in an article by Ansar Abbasi is also very sizzling and dramatic like all the previous stories that we used to read in popular Urdu news papers in the past. It has all the thrill, suspense, action and situation that is required for a hit Hollywood movie but it has some major loop holes and blunders in its script a flop “Lollywood” movie, quite enough to prove MQM innocent.

IMRAN KAHN demands apology from Pakistan to Bangladesh

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has demanded an official apology from the Government of Pakistan to the people of Bangladesh for the atrocities allegedly committed by the Pakistan Army in 1971.

Imran Khan stunned everyone during a live television show hosted by Hamid Mir on Geo News and Geo Super TV channels on Wednesday afternoon just a few moments before the start of a cricket match between Pakistan and West Indies in Mirpur, Bangladesh.

Hamid Mir invited Imran Khan in his live TV show on March 23, which was Pakistan Day. He asked a question to Imran Khan about the expected behaviour of Bangladeshi crowd in Mirpur. Imran Khan said that Bangladeshis will support the Pakistani cricket team.

Hamid Mir informed Imran Khan that today (March 23) is Pakistan Day and Bangladeshis will support Pakistani cricket team “Don’t you think that the time has come that the Pakistani government must apologise to the people of Bangladesh for Army operation in 1971”? Imran Khan immediately agreed with Hamid Mir and said that previously he was also of the opinion that Army operation was a good thing because there was no independent media in Pakistan in 1971. Imran Khan said that when he went to England in 1971, his Bengali friends told him the reality of the Army operation. Imran Khan said that he experienced the love and affection of Bangladeshis during an exhibition match in Mirpur in 1989.

The Middle Class Rule!

It was March 18th 1984 when a group of young students emerged as a political party on the political map of Pakistan. The purpose of struggle was to get the identification as “son of soil”. The message was very clear that this country needs equality among all classes for the unity. The next message was featured by the real faces of youth the country should be ruled by the majority class which is 98%  “middle class”. The class which runs the wheels of the society through their sweat and blood, brains and hearts; should rule the nation. They started the movement by gathering one group “muhajirs” under one name “MQM” and within four years they were ruling the streets of Karachi and Hyderabad and won with majority seats in the local body election and Parliamentarian elections respectively. Altaf Hussain’s strategy and ideology was distinguished and different among other politicians in Pakistan in which he never contested in the elections and emerged as a best teacher and king maker from lower-middle class and for the middle and lower class of Pakistan.

Revolution OR Trap… What’s next?

by Khurram Hasan
So what exactly a revolution is? This question bumping into my mind since the whole world has been following the Egyptian revolution since last two months. I was really not excited. It was strange for me to see a sudden wave of demonstrations in different parts of the world out of nowhere. Who was backing it and what exactly was the objective to be achieved from it. Those were some of the sorts of questions bumping in my mind while I was enjoying an overseas trip. Starting from 25th January, the day of revolt to Mid February, violent protests in Cairo were seen by the world until the Supreme Council of Egyptian Armed Forces dissolved Egypt’s parliament and suspended the Constitution. The council also declared that it would hold power for six months or until elections could be held, whichever came first.  This was not at all a revolution, but a highly pre-designed “Trap” for the Egyptians.

Lord save us from our ‘protectors’!

Muhammad Umer
Lord save us! This was the prayer that sprang to my lips as I heard Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza unabashedly declare at a public gathering in Malir on Sunday: “If all members of the People’s Aman Committee are criminals, the home minister is a criminal too.” He wasn’t done shocking us as he went on to admit a direct link between the ruling Pakistan People’s Party and the People’s Aman Committee (PAC). “In view of the sacrifices rendered by its members, I today announce that the People’s Aman Committee is an affiliate of the PPP.”

What the PAC is all about is general knowledge. It is certainly not about the people. Nor does it have anything to do with Aman. At best, it’s a group comprising Lyari’s criminal elements — and now PPP activists by Mirza’s own admission — whose name has frequently been mentioned by people who have suffered at the hands of extortionists and kidnappers. Of late, a number of shopkeepers and traders have complained of gangsters belonging to the PAC visiting them regularly to extort money. Mirza’s admission must also have come as a shock to those who lost their near and dear ones to a carnage in the Shershah scrap market in October last year when gunmen went on a shooting rampage killing 13 innocent people, all belonging to an ethnic group, in a bid to terrorise the shopkeepers into giving them extortion money. That bloodbath left imprints pointing the accusing finger at the People’s Aman Committee. That was partly why the PPP had been dissociating itself from the PAC before its home minister finally admitted on Sunday that the committee was in fact an affiliate of the party.

Yesterday Tunisia, Tomorrow Pakistan!

Dubbed the ‘Jasmine Revolution’ by some pundits, the spectacular overthrow of the Tunisian President is not just another ‘current event’ among many. It is an epic occasion – the first popular overthrow of an Arab dictator in modern history.

Other autocrats in the region will be twitching nervously tonight, because if it is possible in Tunisia, a land famed for its gentle and warm habits, why not elsewhere?
We have seen many revolutions recently. Many were orchestrated, some were genuine, a few succeeded while others fizzled out. But the Tunisian uprising seems to be bona fide, and gives us an opportunity to gain valuable insights into the anatomy of revolution. It’s worth a closer look.
First let’s set the scene. Unless you’re a tourist on the beach, life in Tunisia is grim. Unemployment rates are shocking and living standards collapsing. It’s a torturing, looting and demoralising Police State.
The oligarchy in power was one of the most openly corrupt in the world. The shopaholic First Lady alone was a Bandit Queen par excellence, with antics that would make even Imelda Marcos blush. This is the depressingly familiar backdrop of the seething discontentment.
The Revolution was sparked from a tiny but genuine uprising over an unemployed graduate who in despair, set himself on fire because he was denied a ‘license’ to sell fruit on a footpath.
This event started a chain reaction.

Altaf calls ‘Generals’ burden on society

LONDON: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain Monday said that ‘Generals’ instead of doing service in return for their motherland, have become burden on its population, Geo News reported.
Addressing via telephone a luncheon hosted in honour of journalists here at Lal Qila Ground near MQM Headquarters, Altaf Hussain said if his death could bring revolution in the country, it would be an honour for him.
