Pak Air Force Activates Radars on Afghan Border

Islamabad: Pakistani Air Force (PAF) on Tuesday activated its air defence radars on the western border with Afghanistan. PAF said that the radars had been activated as all foreign forces in Afghanistan are considered threats.
PAF Chief Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleiman, however, claimed that the radars were not jammed during the raid by US Navy SEALs operation in Abbottabad to kill al Qaeda chief and 9/11 mastermind Osama bin laden.

The Air Chief Marshal said that the radars had been turned off as no attack was anticipated from the western border.
Issuing a veiled threat to its adversaries not to undertake any covert strike on Pakistani soil, he said that PAF has two already received two Saab-2000 Erieye Airborne Early Warning and Control (AWACs) aircraft from Sweden and one more will be delivered in June.
He also added that three China built AWACS would be delivered by the end of 2011.
Air Chief Marshal Suleiman’s claims come more than week after the Pakistani military failed to detect the raid by US Navy SEALs to eliminate Osama bin Laden.
