Introduction

As the purported assassination of Osama bin Laden has placed the focus on Pakistan, it is vital to assess the changing role of Pakistan in broad geostrategic terms, and in particular, of the changing American strategy toward Pakistan. The recently reported assassination was a propaganda ploy aimed at targeting Pakistan. To understand this, it is necessary to examine how America has, in recent years, altered its strategy in Pakistan in the direction of destabilization. In short, Pakistan is an American target. The reason: Pakistan’s growing military and strategic ties to China, America’s primary global strategic rival. In the ‘Great Game’ for global hegemony, any country that impedes America’s world primacy – even one as historically significant to America as Pakistan – may be sacrificed upon the altar of war.

Part 1 of ‘Pakistan in Pieces’ examines the changing views of the American strategic community – particularly the military and intelligence circles – towards Pakistan. In particular, there is a general acknowledgement that Pakistan will very likely continue to be destabilized and ultimately collapse. What is not mentioned in these assessments, however, is the role of the military and intelligence communities in making this a reality; a veritable self-fulfilling prophecy. This part also examines the active on the ground changes in American strategy in Pakistan, with increasing military incursions into the country.

Agencies launch countrywide raids

Pakistan-India fail to reach agreement on Siachen demilitarisation

NEW DEHLI: Pakistan and India failed to reach an agreement on the demilitarisation of Siachen after talks ended in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Both sides have reportedly maintained their earlier adopted stances.

India wants Pakistan to authenticate the AGPL, both on the maps and the ground, as it occupies most of the dominating posts on the Saltoro Ridge, they said. Pakistan, in turn, has been insisting on maintaining the pre-1972 troop positions as agreed in the Simla Agreement.

It was the 12th round of inconclusive talks on Siachen, considered one of the less difficult disputes to resolve between India and Pakistan.

“Both sides agreed to continue the discussions in a meaningful and result-oriented manner. They agreed to meet again on a mutually-convenient date in Islamabad,” a joint statement by India and Pakistan said.

Calling America’s Bluff

Everything, actually. But nervous authorities want to curb jubilation so as not to give the exasperated American public any funny ideas about pulling their stupendously expensive military apparatus out of battered Afghanistan.

Many American tycoons are profiting from these perpetual small wars and, with those profits, calling all the shots in Washington. Yet Bin Laden was apparently out of the active terrorist equation since almost 9/11 itself, cut off from real command except for his role as a symbol for a tiny contingent of angry Arab youth. Can the troops, ‘kill squads’, drones and all please go home?

The quick answer from impervious, imperial Washington is, nothing has changed since Bush told us that everything had changed. The top brass and the arms dealers are addicted to hunting monsters largely of their own making everywhere.

Top general wounded, 7 dead in suicide attack in northern Afghanistan

Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) -- A top coalition general wounded in a suicide attack Saturday in northern Afghanistan -- one that left seven dead and eight others hurt -- said weeks earlier that he'd charged international troops to "show Afghans ... respect," in part to contrast with brazen actions by the likes of the Taliban.
The attack in Taloqan occurred at a high-level meeting of Afghan and coalition officials in a governor's office, a provincial spokesman said. A Taliban spokesman said that the group, whose fight to resume control in Afghanistan has picked up in recent months, was responsible.

Pak Short-range nukes raise alarm

Pakistan's recent testing of NASR or Hatf-9 short range missile, coupled with its rapidly growing stockpile of low-intensity nuclear weapons, suggests that it is actually preparing to cross the nuclear threshold in case of a conflict with India, The Times of India reported on Sunday.
One of world's most authoritative voices on Pakistan's nuclear strength and American nuclear expert Hans Kristensen told the paper that a nuclear-tipped NASR seemed more like a weapon intended for use against Indian forces advancing into Pakistani territory.

"While that wouldn't threaten Indian survival in itself, it would of course mean crossing the nuclear threshold early in a conflict, which is one of the particular concerns of a short-range nuclear weapon,'' said Kristensen, who is also Federation of American Scientists' Nuclear Information Project director.
While the 60-km short range of the nuclear capable missile doesn't threaten the security of any major Indian city, it certainly makes the Indian army and security forces vulnerable in case India does try to implement its much talked about Cold Start Doctrine

ISI Helped France Smash RAW-Led Terror Network

LAHORE – French counter-terrorism authorities, acting on an intelligence tip-off provided by Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), have successfully smashed a terrorist network headed by an Indian national.

Well-informed sources said here on Thursday that the French Police arrested the gang leader Muhammad Niaz Abdul Rasheed, a 33-year-old Indian national from Madurai, from Charles de Gaulle Airport on May 10, this year as he returned from a recruiting trip to Algeria. Six of his accomplices were also apprehended from various French cities concurrently.

The first group comprising two French nationals, sent by the French Popular Front (FPF), was on their way to Afghanistan when Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) personnel captured them during a successful raid in January this year from Lahore.

Hackers Breached US Defense Contractors

Unknown hackers have broken into the security networks of Lockheed Martin Corp (LMT.N) and several other U.S. military contractors, a source with direct knowledge of the attacks told Reuters.

They breached security systems designed to keep out intruders by creating duplicates to "SecurID" electronic keys from EMC Corp's (EMC.N) RSA security division, said the person who was not authorized to publicly discuss the matter.

It was not immediately clear what kind of data, if any, was stolen by the hackers. But the networks of Lockheed and other military contractors contain sensitive data on future weapons systems as well as military technology currently used in battles in Iraq and Afghanistan.

GCC to expand Peninsula Shield

Riyadh—A proposal to expand the joint force of the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) called Peninsula Shield is currently being reviewed by the Gulf governments with an aim to boost indigenous capability to deter any external threat or aggression.

“The plan is at a preliminary stage being discussed by member countries,” said a GCC official speaking on the occasion of the bloc’s 30th anniversary celebrations that kicked off Tuesday.

“The proposal calls for expanding the Peninsula Shield and stationing the troops in each of the six member countries,” said the official, while referring to the remarks made by Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Shaikh Khaled bin Ahmed Al-Khalifa. At the moment, the Peninsula Shield has about 40,000 troops and continues to have its permanent base at King Khaled Military City near Hafar Al-Batin in the Eastern Province.

Islamabad—With an alarming note from Indian Navy Chief Adm. Nirmal Verma that “we need to maintain the organizational ability to deploy ships, submarines and aircraft at ‘immediate’ notice,” top Indian Naval commanders are discussing new strategy and plans.An Indian defence ministry official was quoted as saying that “over the next four days, commanders of the Indian Navy will discuss issues of operational relevance and future plans of the Indian Navy.”

It is worth noting that the Indian Navy began flexing its muscle as a time when Pakistan Navy has lost its under-sea monitoring capabilities after “specially trained terrorists” targetted its most valueable Naval asset P3C Orion aircraft.

Warfare dominions have changed since more than a decade; Pakistan is under ferocious attack; what all is going on is an all-out aggression against Pakistan as a state; after every attack in Pakistan, point of views are discussed on hourly basis and disseminated on half hourly basis. Some standard analyses are tabulated below.

• This was a serious security breach
• Where the intelligence agencies are?
• Law enforcing agencies are in efficient
• Musharraf is responsible of all this!
• All this is because of the corruption in masses from top to bottom
• Defense budget must be discussed at length in the Parliament
• Tomorrow there will be a strike followed by a DHARNA

• Interior Minister claims “ Backbone of Taliban has been broken”

The dosage of above mentioned analyses is so strong and continuous that sleepless dreams also constitute same themes, incidents and messages. Out of the entire predicament, one thing is on dot and as per the plan, strategic encirclement of Pakistan. The most defining aspect of the said maneuver is rolling now, in other words we can say that “the said strategic encirclement is now in execution phase, coupled with strategic terrorism”.

Indian scared of ISI

Foreign hand behind PNS Mehran Base attack

Islamabad—Information pieced together by anti-terror experts has confirmed that the May 22 attack at PNS Mehran Base in Karachi was the work of professionals and fully trained terrorists backed and supported by foreign authority and intelligence network. 

Officials engaged in recollection of information from the scene of incident have learnt that at least three of the attackers appeared to be from Uzbekistan had full knowledge the area and technically updated in urban warfare. 

Some officials also find the footprints of Al-Qaeda leader Saif el Adil’s role behind the May 22 attack but others do not rule out the possibility of the behind the scene role of a major intelligence network.

Visiting Russian General Opens Security Talks

ISLAMABAD:A top Russian military commander paid a rare visit to Pakistan in a latest sign of growing ties between the bitter cold-war rivals.

The visit by Russian Ground Forces Commander-in-Chief Colonel General Alexander Postnikov was the first by any senior military official from  Russia in recent years.

India’s much trumped terrorists list for which Pakistan is maligned seems full or errors. Despite the ongoing peace efforts India spares no opportunity to defame Pakistan in the eyes of international community. Pakistan is blamed for each and every thing happened inside India. Soon after the Abbottabad operation and American claims that Osama was hiding there India spared no time to release a list of 50 others ”Most wanted terrorists” which they said were also hiding in Pakistan. Thanks god India has found two of the most wanted from its own bag. Only a transparent and dedicate effort is required it will get all of them from its own hoard.

PNS MEHRAN ATTACK WAS "American operation"

The former head of Pakistan's ISI, Hamid Gul, tells Channel 4 News that he is "100 per cent sure" a Taliban attack on a major naval air base in Karachi was an "American operation".

The Pakistani Taliban have claimed responsibility for a major assault on the headquarters of the naval air force in Karachi that killed at least thirteen officials and injured 14 others.

Eleven navy officers and two paramilitary rangers died in the attack at the PNS Mehran base in Karachi after 16 hours of intense fighting, involving 130 Pakistani commandos.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik said just six militants were believed to be involved in the attack, destroying or damaging two aircraft and laying siege to a main building in one of the most heavily-guarded bases in the unstable, nuclear-armed country.

PAF in action against Kabul

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Air Force planes went into action today and destroyed enemy mortar and machinegun positions, which had been attacking the two Pakistani posts of Miskinai and Sangpura in the Bajaur area since yesterday.

Giving this information at a press conference at the Government House this evening, the Minister for States and Frontier Regions, Lt-Gen K.M. Shaikh, said that the Afghan Askaris were firing at these posts since last night, but Pakistan stood up courageously.

I Saved My Country From Nuclear Blackmail

Pakistan’s nuclear program has always been a target for Western propaganda and false accusations. I would like to make it clear that it was an Indian nuclear explosion in May 1974 that prompted our nuclear program, motivating me to return to Pakistan to help create a credible nuclear deterrent and save my country from Indian nuclear blackmail.

After 15 years in Europe with invaluable experience in enrichment technology, I came to Pakistan in December 1975 and was given the task of producing nuclear weapons by then–prime minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. On Dec. 10, 1984, I informed Gen. Zia-ul-Haq that we could explode a device at a week’s notice, whenever he so desired. We achieved credible nuclear capacity by the second half of the ’80s, and the delivery system was perfected in the early ’90s. For a country that couldn’t produce bicycle chains to have become a nuclear and missile power within a short span—and in the teeth of Western opposition—was quite a feat.

Pakistan's fourth nuclear reactor symbol of death for India's cold start doctrine

NEW DELHI: Pakistan is focusing on building low-yield, tactical nuclear weapons which it can use in case of skirmishes at the border with India. Islamabad - In a great game going on in the region, CIA in collaboration with RAW is destabilising Pakistan to ultimately achieve its objectives of having a strong foothold in Afghanistan, containing China, and controlling Iran and oil reserves in the Middle East.In an exclusive interview with Pakistan Observer, Brig (Retd) Imtiaz Ahmed, who has to his credit seventeen years of long experience in intelligence service of the country including his appointment as the top man in the Intelligence Bureau (IB) while giving his views on post-Osama period said Pakistan is passing through a difficult time when CIA has unleashed its onslaught against ISI to malign it in the eyes of the people of Pakistan and the world.Imtiaz said war on terrorism, in fact was war on Osama by CIA in collaboration with Raw. The situation is clearing up now as Osama has been eliminated, who was in fact non-functional. Ayman al-Zawahiri and other top-ranking leaders were in the driving seat carrying out their missions.
